Last month there was a telephone services promotion in my area. I didn't have any need to participate so I didn't. I got a call one afternoon, the person said that I had won a prize, I ask how is that possible since I didn't even enter, they hung up.
I hate those stupid things. I think what is worse is that you know they only do this because it works so there are lots of really dumb people out there who think they can win a prize without entering the contest. Do they really think they are so special that some company just says oh, let's give that dude a prize? Puh-lease!
Like the lottery winnings scamA confidence game or other fraudulent scheme, especially for making a quick profit;
- I can't believe that people really fall for being told they won a foreign lottery. Sure, people - it was God performing a miracle, right? Another sign of the dwindling supply of common sense.
I get calls like this every few weeks that start with you've won such-and-such, blah blah blah. I just interrupt and say what are you selling? Most of the time they say nothing until pressed into admitting that they want you to buy magazines or whatever it is. I always just say I'm not interested and hang up.
I get these calls too and they just bother the hell out of me. I know most time these are just folks in a backoffice doing a job to earn a few dollars and I don't want to be rude to them - but they are such a waste of time.
Sillyme, it's great that you can appreciate that they are just doing their job to earn some money but it is so inconvenient to be quietly sitting a doing something to hear the phone ring and then they are trying to sell you stuff.
I guess it's a heck of way to earn one's bread - and I'm sure most of the callers don't enjoy doing what they do either. It is a huge inconvenience but somebody nis obviously making money out of the business,
These folks are hoping to catch senior citizens or people who are really down on their luck with these scams. These folks don't really think about "how am I the winner when I never entered a contest?" like we are.
I have sympathy for those telemarketers who do not hide the fact that they are trying to sell you something. I did this for one summer and you get treated like garbage. Those people I very politely let them know that I'm not interested. The people who knowingly work with a scamA confidence game or other fraudulent scheme, especially for making a quick profit;
like "you've won" type stuff deserves what they get, in my opinion. I wouldn't work for someone who made me do something unethical like that - would you?
