Virus on cell phones

Virus on cell phones

I don't know how true this is, but I was told a few weeks ago, not to accept a add request from a particular email address because they will automatically send viruses to my phone, can that really happen?

Just like with your home computer, you must open a file in order to get a virus on your cell phone so it is very unlikely that a simple add request will hurt you. However, there are a good many nasty viruses hitting the internet capable cells these days so you want to protect yourself. You need security installed and keep it updated just like on your PC. Also, if you have Bluetooth capabilities, be sure to turn off the discoverable mode. Go to the options screen and set it to "hidden" so other phones can't detect your cell phone to send the virus to.

Wow. That's scary. I have never heard of a cellphone getting a virus. Is your phone still susceptible to viruses even if you don't have the web option activated?
