'Taken' by friends

'Taken' by friends

I have a friend who was laid off so I loaned money. Loaned more money. Then some more money. Needed money to get clothes for interviews, needed money for food, needed money for rent ... I loaned it. And the friend NEVER paid me back. I didn't even ask for it back.

Well, now the tables have turned and guess what, the friend won't loan any money to me!

I got got!

I had a friend who asked me to share a cabana at the beach with her family. We paid half the rent for the season and even chipped in to put a new kitchen and floor in. After all was said and done, she allowed her brother in law to come in with his family of 5. They paid nothing and spent the entire summer there eating and drinking our food.

That is just terrible. I would ask the "friend" now for the loaned money back. Say that you need it now and it is owed to you. The money was a loan and should be paid back. No ifs ands or buts. Speak up.

The worst thing you can do is to lend money to friends or family members. Most of the time you never see the money again or it takes a long time to be repaid. People tend not to think of you as a debt when you can't send the collection agencies after them.

I have never borrowed money from friends and i will never loan money to friends for this reason. I have a friend who constantly "loans" money to an employee and never gets it back. I keep telling her to take it out of the paychecks she give to her, but she won't do it. She just keeps getting taken by her.

I do not loan to friends of family. If there is an ER that comes up that is one thing, but more than likely I will give them the item needed, rather than cash itself. I have learned this lesson long ago, not doing it again.
