Please Hold While The Nextel Subscriber Is Located
WTF? I upgraded all my sprint phones to Nextel devices since Sprint/Nextel appears to be dying to get new customers. The sales folks called and basically gave me new phones and tripled my minutes for $10 less per month than what I was paying. I thought I was getting a real steal!
Well, I got got! Nextel sucks worse than Sprint sucked! I could deal with the Sprint crap since I did get the voicemails people left for me. The phone would ring about 55% of the time for new calls but I would at least get a voicemail from people who did not get through. With Nextel, people complain they have to wait so long for the lady to finish saying "Please Hold While The Nextel Subscriber Is Located..." that they just hang up! I am losing serious business because people now know I am using a mobile instead of a landline for business. Sprint never gave me away like that but Nextel service jumps out at you as being a mobile phone! I can't cancel the dumb contracts because it is $150 per phone!
Anyone thinking of going to Sprint/Nextel needs to decide what 20 seconds of "Please Hold While The Nextel Subscriber Is Located..." will do to the people who want to talk on the phone. A number of my contacts prefer not to wait out the locating the Nextel Subscriber process.

I called Nextel/Sprint last week to ask if I could at least change the message. I am in the same situation where I have multiple phones they practically shoved down my throat to change my Sprint phones to Nextel devices. The support guy said he didn't know what I was talking about! WTF! He didn't know what message I was trying to change and says he had never heard a lady come on and say "Please hold while the Nextel subscriber is loacted" ... Give me a f*cking break! So he sits there and calls my phones over and over ... He's in a fixed location ... I'm in a fixed location ... What good is calling the MOBILE phones over and over going to do when we are both in fixed locations? He says he never heard the message so I said thanks and hung up. I'm looking for a new provider and just pay the $200 to end my contract early.
I called support and they did the call all your phones deal. The support guy actually said he heard the message for a brief moment when he called one of my phones. I have multiple phones and multiple area codes. He said he heard the message with the 336 area code. He opened a ticket and said more people need to complain. Then the engineers will go out and test for the quality of the signal in the bad area. So just keep calling and complaining or they probably will never do anything about the annoying lady.
I would rather them let us customize the message or leave the space blank until the Nextel subscriber is located. Then start ringing or go to voicemail.
I am amazed at how I can go to different rooms in my house and my Nextel phone will say "No Service" ... darn, I am in my freaking small 1300 sq ft house! How in the world can walking from room to room cause the no service message on the phone? I know people calling during these periods of no service receive the dreaded "Please Hold While The Nextel Subscriber Is Located." They have to be able to change that behavior. It is all computers and programming so I know it can be changed.
One of the main reasons Nextel sucks more and more by the day. Did Sprint buy them just to let them go out of business? Microsoft does this type of crap. To get rid of the competition, they buy the competition and let them die off. I have had Nextel for a while and I used to the that message every now and then. Now, it is almost 50% of the time! You call the support center and they must all be Sprint people because they have never heard the message! I had to trash the blackberry because the message happened on 75-90% of the calls. I didn't know the type of device mattered that much but the message dropped back down to 50% of the time once I went back to a phone. Nextel sucks and I will surely jump ship once my contract ends.
Nextel is total garbage and they are supposed to be geared toward businesses! I decided to pay a lot at Alltel instead of throwing the money away at Nextel. Alltel is just as expensive if you just want an expensive provider. The best network I have had so far is probably Verizon, but their customer service was right in line with Sprint's ... terrible!
I lost customers because they had to wait on that "Please Hold While The Nextel Subscriber Is Located" message. Old school business men don't like doing business with new companies who only use mobile phones. This message is a dead give away that you are a mobile phone using company!
Back when I had Nextel, I used to get rid of the message by using call forwarding to my new Alltel phone. Can anyone else confirm that call forwarding gets rid of the "Please Hold While The Nextel Subscriber Is Located" message?
I feel your pain. It's seriously too good to be true. I work as a dealer for Sprint and Nextel and I get no new customers just complaints from existing ones. I feel so bad there's nothing I can do. All I can do is wait with them on the crappy customer service line while they 'fix' the problem.
I lose my Nextel service every time I walk into a building! I depend on my phone working all the time which I know is impossible, but every time I walk into a building the service quits! My personal cell phone still works and will have at least 2 bars. My Nextel device shows "No Service" and the people trying to call me get "Please Hold While The Nextel Subscriber Is Located..." and then they finally get voicemail. I may get a beep stating I have a message after I leave the building! Pathetic! They are dropped as soon as my contract is up.
I don't have Nextel but my daughter did for a while. I used to hear this a lot when I'd try to call her. Has anyone ever actually gotten through after that message? I never have, not once. I kept waiting for a we found her message but it never happened. They really need to change this to be more accurate. Something like "Our sucky service seems to not be working wherever the subscriber is currently located. Try back later and maybe she'll move near a tower."
What a freaking coincidence that I find this forum today. I traveled to a new area today and I thought it strange that no one was calling me when I usually get calls every 30-45 minutes. So I tried calling myself from my personal phone. Well damn, I got the "Please Hold While The Nextel Subscriber Is Located..." message repeated twice and then nothing! I wonder how many calls I have missed because of this crappy service? What's worse is I just renewed my contract with Nextel/Sprint and this foolishness today has me wishing I had not! I called Nextel to have the customize the message for me and they can not! WTF?
This is the very reason I will never go back to Sprint/Nextel. This lady was the most annoying creature on earth! Please hold while the Nextel subscriber is located! That was so freaking annoying and it cost me a lot of business because customers want responses right then, not after the Nextel Subscriber is located! What were they thinking with that crap? And it's not customizable and customer support says you are stuck with it! WRONG F*CKING ANSWER!
