Personal Scams

Have you ever been taking by a scamA confidence game or other fraudulent scheme, especially for making a quick profit; ? I have done pretty good. But I was taking by the old Magazine scam when I was just 19. You know then come around and say they are selling magazines for school and such to win prizes and then you order from them from the list and they cannot take checks because the school has had so many bounced checks. Then of course you never get any magazines.

What ones have you fallen for? Be honest now. :)

My family once bought magazine subscriptions from a door to door salesman who turned out to be a total fraud

I think I bought several magazine subscriptions at once from a very aggressive salesperson. I received the magazines, but as a result of the heavy sales pitch, not because I was interested in them.

This was quite a few years ago, and it won't happen again.

I hate these. I hate it when those 15-17 year olds come to my door and ask me to buy something to "fundraise" for their school. I ordered 10 delicious pizzas that I never got. :( They looked so good on the catalog too. And stupid me, I paid in cash. On one other occasion, one kid came back a year later and tried to sell me cookies. He had a nice talk with the police and his parents looked VERY angry at him.

I fell for a scamA confidence game or other fraudulent scheme, especially for making a quick profit; that my own neighbors pulled on me. Their daughter was selling candy bars a couple months back, and I decided to buy some from her since it was a "school fund raiser". Candy bars were $1.50 each, which is a bit much, but I could see them being that much for a fund raiser. I bought 2 from the girl, and paid $3. About an hour later, the girl's dad came back and said he would not deliver the candy bars because I only bought 2, and should have been neighborly and bought more.

I would have contacted the school, and said something about that. It was not neighborly of him to say that he was not going to deliver the paid for items. I would have contact someone about this. You are entitled to get what you pay for and you are not required to buy anything at all if you choose not to.

This happens more than you probably realize. I know of many people that have been approached by people. One in particular kept stating, I do not have checks or cash can I pay by creditMoney loaned or the ability of an individual or company to borrow money. cards, can I be billed. The person ignored my friend and then was mad at the end after my friend had picked out several magaines and then had no cash or check to give her right there and then. She even stated it was a waste of her time to be there.

You know that is all you can really do. I think that there are too many scams out there now days whether online or offline or in person from people you know. I do not think that anyone is safe anymore and all you can do is take action against that person.

Just first i heard about this scamA confidence game or other fraudulent scheme, especially for making a quick profit; of magazine. You should not take magazines subcriptions from others whom you dont know more.

I got gypped on that candy bar trick as well, but he got what was coming to him after me and my friends ganged up on the kid and literally dragged his ass to the Principal after he suddenly had the money to subscribe to a music magazine, his family was poor as Hell, the Principal called his parents and they were FURIOUS!

Witnessing his parents smack his rear in the playground with everyone watching was priceless. We couldn't get our money back, but seeing him being humiliated like that paid it ten times over.
