Official looking bill

Official looking bill

This is a scamA confidence game or other fraudulent scheme, especially for making a quick profit; that hit a lot of businesses in this area. Someone created a very official looking bill for an official sounding company and sent it to a lot of very busy local businesses. Most of them looked at the bill but didn't question it because it was for a very normal sounding amount. By the time someone got wise to the scam the people who were collecting the money had cleared out with their ill gotten gains. I don't recall if anyone was actually caught.

Goes to show you that you need to double check everything these days. I can see how this would work though. Businesses usually pay all their monthly bills at the same time. If they aren't paying real close attention something like this could sneak through.

I have fallen victim to this type of scamA confidence game or other fraudulent scheme, especially for making a quick profit; online. Some companies will bill your Visa or Mastercard and if you don't check on a regular basis, the recurring charge will keep appearing. You have to audit your bills from time to time to ensure you don't get got by this type of scam. I've even had big companies start charging my card every month. They can't seem to find out why they are charging my card and I sure as heck didn't buy anything from them, so we both chalk it up as stolen identityCrime in which an imposter obtains key pieces of personal information, such as Social Security or driver's license numbers, in order to impersonate someone else., reverse the charges, and move on. Annoying and time consuming, but luckily, no money lost.
