Nigerian Check Scams

Nigerian Check Scams

I'm sure all of you have gotten at least one of these I'm sure. Some "business" in Nigeria needing people to process payments of their US citizens. You deposit the checks into your account and then keep 10% for yourself and wire 90% to the business owner. Of course, after you have deposited the money the checks bounce and you owe your bank thousands of dollars. There are some that are actually legitamate checks. Legitamate but not legal, they are money laundering schemes currently being investigated by the FBI. I actually responded to one but while waiting for their response I found out what they were up to and sent contact information to the FBI. I never heard anymore from the company.

Good to hear that you are stepping up to help stop these idiots. So many people have fallen for this type of thing its really getting bad.

The Nigerians are scamming everywhere! They are now all over craigslist, kijiji, dating sites, etc. When will they come up with something that doesn't automatically flag them as scammers?

You know what I just got an email from someone who wants to purchase a phone I have on craigslist and is willing to pay $125 for shipping to sent it to Nigeria. I guess this too is a scamA confidence game or other fraudulent scheme, especially for making a quick profit; . Glad I saw this!

You are probably right, you make their offer so convincing, be sure to ask all the pertinent questions before engaging in any dealing with them, I suspect some of these are not even based in Nigeria, they are copied and done by persons here in America.

Yeah, I used to own a business and got one of those through the mail. I took it to the local post office and gave it to the post master to take care of. He notified the FBI and they investigated it. It was just one of the typical check scheme letters. These guys and gals are still trying to do this and I don't know of anyone who doesn't know about this now. It looks like they wouldn't even try now.

I've gotten so much scamA confidence game or other fraudulent scheme, especially for making a quick profit; stuff that is connected to Nigeria it is really sad. Mentally for me Nigeria = Scam. Sad thing is that I went to college with a few Nigerians who were really good people. If I get an email or real mail with the word Nigeria on it anywhere it is immediately gotten rid of without further attention.

It's funny really to see what they will do in order to get the money they think you have. This site:

..gets these guys and girls to send pictures of themselves along with signs and other things just to mess with them. One Nigerian billed himself as an evangelist and wanted money. The man they contacted wrote back to him as Father Ted Crilley of the Church of Bread and Wine and it was hilarious! Messing with them I guess is just as good for entertainment as to gripe about them.

God knows how many times I got those Nigerian emails. But surely common sense got the best of me, so I never got drawn to those scams, but my very close friend once did. Ten years ago when Internet was in its childhood these scams were fresh stuff and not many people new about them, so it was much easier to trick people especially suckers for easy money. Fortunately my friend didn't loose any money because he bailed in the last second.
