Maximum benefit limits

I can't believe that insurance companies in this day and age can put a maximum benefit amount on your health benefits. I've seen it recently in dental insurance a lot. You have to pay $60 per month and they cap your benefits at only $2000 per year. That is such a small amount for the costs of good dental care these days.

I think caps are wrong, as well. The cost of medical care has risen so bad that even a million dollar lifetime limit can be hit very quickly if someone has a major issue such as needing dialysis and a kidney transplant. I have a friend who needs dialysis three times a week and is on a organ transplant list. He's close to the max on his insurance now and the transplant, if he can get one, will costs over $100,000 plus all the after care and medications for the rest of his life. It's not fair for people to have to choose medical needs and lose their homes like often happens.

I completely agree. You have to literally liquidise and use every asset that you have, before you start being able to receive help as a charity case for the hospital.

I was surprised myself when I saw the lifetime caps, even if they do settle at 5 million for a lifetime. You never know what will happen-HIV for instance. That would wipe out a capped plan in no time.

I agree that these maximum benefits are hard to take, but what are the options? Health care is very expensive and the premiums are already pretty high.

The major cause of bankruptcy, even in these horrible economic times, are large non-covered medical bills. I think that's horrible. I would love to see the US develop it's own universal health care. I know there are problems with Canada's system, but overall, at least most people are able to get care to a certain extent. Well, that's my rant for the day-LOL!
