And then they get to be the beneficiary of the person who just passed. Scams like this really make me sick, what type of person would fake love for money? Thats really quite sad.
Not everyone allows the person they die with to be their beneficiary. I know my mom's friend just got re-married at 60. She isn't leaving a dime to her new husband or his children, just her previous family. Her theory is he has his own to take care of and she doesn't expect him to take care of her either. Although many people do seem to fall for these types of scams.
Your mom's friend has the right idea...my step father recently passed away (he and my mom were married about 19 years), and they together had made an 'irrevocable' trust for such reasons...No 'johnny come lately' husband can get his hands on that money...directly anyway...Have discussed the possiblity of my mom remarrying again (she's a 'serial marrier'), and have already told her that she we insist there be a prenup should this ever come up..I would think anyone would want their own children rather than a new spouse late in life to get their inheritance, but there are many many people out there that marry for that inheritance. I personally think if there are children from a prior marriage, then a 'new' spouse should be barred from any recovery unless they have been married at least ten years ....
It happens quite frequently where I live!
You always see older men around my town with a young foreign girl or a very blonde busty english girl who are young enough to be their grandchildren!
I think its stupid that the men or woman fall for this!
They should do as you said and leave it to their real family and just enjoy their time left on the planet!
Frankly, I think it's pretty disgusting, and I can't understand why people follow it when it's someone WAY younger than them. I mean, they've got to think that that person is just a grave robber! But it is sad when an elderly person thinks they've found love and companionship late in life and it's just a scammer. I don't know what's worse, taking the money, or toying with the emotions.
You also have to think that not all of them are scams. Some people genuinely love the other person, and are actually heartbroken when they die. It's not fair to generalize all this type of relationship.
Many people in my family will purchase insurance policies on other members of the family who live "risky" lifestyles. I have an aunt who takes out policies on my uncles and cousins who smoke, drive race cars, etc. She has cashed in on plenty of policies. What is crazy is the people she has the policies on never know she has the policy! Seems as if the party being insured would be notified that someone is purchasing life insurance on them.
It is always sad when people scamA confidence game or other fraudulent scheme, especially for making a quick profit;
via love and its even worse to think how many times over this tends to happen. Its not always just in the news we hear about these things, it could just as easily happen to someone we know.
