Cell Phone Providers
One thing that has recently happened to me is that the monthly rate on my cell phone was increased without my knowledge. My service provider agent put me on a plan through a local university that was apparently open to the general public and when the university plan switched I ended up paying about $15 a month more.
I just wanted to post this as a warning and another piece of advice we've all heard before: read the contract thoroughly before signing and ask a million questions.

My cellphone company got me by the type of phone I had! I had a really cheap phone at first, no flip, no pictures, no text messaging, no "push to talk" ... nothing but phone service. The service was only $24.99 per month for 600 minutes. Well, I go in and upgrade to the next free version of my phone and it has the "push to talk" button on the side. No worries since I don't use that service nor do I have the service on my plan. It also has "color wallpaper capabilities" which I would never use so I didn't worry about that either. Well, my next bill was $64.99 plus a huge amount of taxes, FCC fees, etc. I called to ask about the bill and I was being charged because my phone had those "capabilities" ... not that I was using them, but just because they were there on the phone! How retarded is that????
So I pitched a fit and they reversed the charges. I thought all was well until I got my next bill and they did the same madness again ... charging me because the phone had the capabilities ... not because I used them. After 6 months of this and them refusing to drop the bogus charges after the 6th month, I dropped them altogether and went with another provider and made sure I got a phone without any buttons and capabilities I did not want.
Shame on you Sprint PCS.

I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one to get burned by cell phone companies. I know that they're one of the most common types of services to "get" people through hidden charges, etc. I'm going in this week to have it out with the provider agent and trying to rectify the situation. Wish me luck.
Good luck man. I was just got by my company, Sprint/Nextel. I have free nights, weekends, and long distance with my plan. Well, I went over my anytime/plan minutes and now NOTHING is free! These clowns are now charging me for each and every call I make, no matter when I make it! I want to drop my service so bad but I would have to pay a lot to end the contract early. I'll never go for another company requiring me to get a long term contract.
Yup seems like no one has anything good to say about Sprint. I got screwed with them a year ago on my moms cell phone. Fisrt they charged her too much and her bill was high! Then they credited those charges and ended up crediting 'too much' so they reversed everything!!!!! Never again!
I totally agree with R1986, you just have to read the contract, tell them you will take it home and read it if necessary, because it may come back to haunt you in the future.
I think there are some land line places that do the same thing here. I cant remember the name of the place but local for me they run TV ads really late and end up with the 'no creditMoney loaned or the ability of an individual or company to borrow money., no problem' deal that seems to catch people.
Are you positive this was not something noted in the original paperwork that you filled out? I notice this seems to happen a great deal after X # of years something increases, its in the paper work but the customer might have overlooked it.
