Calling a number in the Carribean for a prize.

Calling a number in the Carribean for a prize.

This is one my wife fell for. I don't remember all the details but we got some notice telling us that we had won some prize and to call this number with the area code 846. She called and what they do is keep you on the line as long as possible. You get charged something like three dollars a minute billed directly to your telephone bill. Because of laws in that area the charges are considered legitimate because you made the call voluntarily. We did not get the offered gift or prize but when we got the phone bill we sure paid for our trouble. Cost us something in the neighborhood of fifty bucks. I was cheesed off but turns out at that point we had no recourse.

Wow, that really sucks. The scammers really don't even make any money, they just cost you money! Maybe they are trying to see who bites on this scam so they can come back later with a bigger scam that actually gets you to send them money.

Actually they do make money from this scamA confidence game or other fraudulent scheme, especially for making a quick profit; . It is being billed by the phone company on their behalf. Rules down there are a whole lot different than they are here. The reason it is hard to catch by the person being scammed is that these numbers can be dialed direct without using an international dialing code first. They operate like some porno lines that bill to your telephone bill instead of a creditMoney loaned or the ability of an individual or company to borrow money. card.
