Brown Meat

Brown Meat

I have heard conflicting stories about this and I would appreciate your opinions. When I buy fresh meat at the grocery store, I want it to be a nice red color. However, lately I am seeing more meat that has started turning brown. The butcher tells me that it is just because the light is turning the color and that the meat is just fine.

I get very frustrated when we buy ground beef and it has a good color on the outside but when we break it apart it is brown on the inside. Apparently, they re-wrap the meat; putting fresher meat around the older meat. This is false advertisingThe use of false or misleading statements in advertising.; giving us the impression that the whole package is fresh.

I know exactly what you mean. Is that not the nastiest thing? I mean, even if you use it the same day you buy it, you can still break it open and it's brown inside. I take mine back to the store. They're not getting over on me that easy.

That almost makes me want to vomit a little. I have never seen this in my stores but I will be keeping an eye out for it. That is just plain nasty.

I don't get those people, how can they serve or sell food like that, they just want to make some money on something that must be wasted! Do they know that if that meet has gone bad it could do you more harm then if they were to go and openly rob everything you got?!

Well, if it is now normal to buy brown fresh meat; how do you know it is bad or going bad? I always assumed that if it was brown it was bad. Of course at home, I can smell if it is bad or not. But, I am not going to be sniffing the packages in the store. ;o)
