They never seem to take you off that damn list when you want to cancel, instead they keep giving you free months and then sneak in a charge here and there. Is there a way to stop this?
I tried cancelling one time and they transferred me over left and right to this place and that one. It became such a hassle and I would never get through! After A LOT of attempts I was finally succesful.
When I went to cancel my AOL account a couple of years ago it took me three months to finally get off their billing list. This is with having cancellation confirmation numbers and everything. The third month when I got billed yet again, I was extremely irate and less than professional when I talked to "customer service". After going through giving them all of the cancellation confirmations I had accrued and getting yet another by the woman I talked to, I let her know that if I get one more charge I was going to a lawyer.
The best way to get rid of AOL is to call and cancel. Then, call your bank and tell them you lost that creditMoney loaned or the ability of an individual or company to borrow money. card you used to sign up for AOL. Your bank will gladly send you another card for free and it's a card number AOL doesn't have on file. When AOL calls and says the payment was denied (believe me, they will call even though you were supposed to be cancelled!) you tell them you cancelled the previuos month so why are they calling this month to collect again?
They will admit their mistake and look for the next sucker.
50cent that is a good note as most know when you call aol and end up trying to cancel they do what it called a saved call, and it does not matter how many times you are transfered over, by the end most give up and say 'fine ok whatever, 4 months free' and hang up.
I did exactly what 50cent said. I cancelled my card after cancelling service, and lo and behold I got a letter a month later saying that my payment was denied because the card holder had requested my card returned. I called them up and asked them why they were charging when I cancelled, and gave them numbers, names of the person I spoke to and so on.
There is no way to stop company as big as that! Unfortunately they can do whatever they want! They can get by with harassing you for years and what could you do?
After you finally get them to cancel they won't stop calling asking you to come back. Plus, all the junk mail they keep sending me trying to remind me they are still there. They bring harassment to a whole new level.
The only way I know of 100% getting off the list is to cancel the CC on file, change your address and phone number. I can not think of the # of people I know have had to deal with this and almost wanted to smack someone in the face for not being able to ever be removed. I think though, if you complain hard enough you can be removed (try threatening with a harassment suit if you can get a Sup. on the phone call).
